Awesome Weekend

I'm done with class so I got to enjoy Portland this weekend without the looming stress of papers or tests or anything school related. Carina got off early on Friday so that's when the fun began. The Rose Festival started this weekend, so we went down to the waterfront to walk around, walk through the fair (which was free on Friday - I like free), and see the fireworks. We had a really good dinner at Rock Bottom Brewery (really good happy hour, btw) and then just enjoyed the good weather. The fireworks show was amazing. I'm used to the 10 minute 4th of July fireworks "show" that Corvallis puts on every year. This was lots better! We got a good place to stand along the river (because we got there 1 hour early) and watched the 20 minute show. Very cool.

Saturday was just as much fun. We went to the Saturday market and got henna tattoos. I have wanted to get a real tattoo for a while but wanted to get it in henna first to make sure I really liked it - enough to make it permanent. I like the style and the words that were done in henna but they couldn't do it as small as I wanted - so I'll have to find some other way to try it out before making it permanent.

Sunday was pretty easy. Church and then lunch at Carina's with a card game afterwards. Followed by a nap. Wonderful.

And today we went to Cannon Beach! I haven't been to this beach since I was pretty little, but I love it. We got there mid-morning and there were people around but not too many. We headed for the tide pools - got to learn some pretty interesting things about sea anemones (like their natural color isn't green, that's just the algae), but the tide was coming in pretty fast so we didn't stay long. After spending some time downtown for lunch and shopping we headed back to the beach and people were everywhere. I don't think I've seen that many people on a beach. And the tide was completely in. It was very weird to look out and see places you were walking less than 3 hours before completely submerged. We build a sand castle and got some sun. It was a perfect day at the beach. (I have pictures but sadly my camera cord is not with me in Portland so I am not able to share them yet.)

Happy Memorial Day!
